Sick Over the Colour Brown ~ Caramel Colour, and the Health Risks in Our Drinks

Well, today I don't have a product that I am researching and blogging about as is my usual format.  However I am going to mention a particular ingredient that is found in most of our food, known as caramel colour.  It has been all over the news of late, and in this case the idiom 'any publicity is good publicity' may not work in this instance.
Some types of caramel colour has in it an ingredient called 4-Mel or 4-methylimidazole, which is a known carcinogen.  It is especially utilized the soft drink industry.  The COEHHA wants any product that has more than 29 micrograms in it should be labeled as a cancer causing product.  If a product wanted to make the risk of cancer negligible, it should contain no more than 3 micrograms per can of soda.  Studies have shown that certain sodas had in excessive of 29 micrograms of 4-Mel in it.  I don't like soda drinks and I never really have, I can not imagine drinking the amount of sodas that some people drink in a day.  If you or anyone you know drinks pop, this might be an eye opening read.
